The project

The WAT platform is a fleet management platform that offers a complete suite of tools for monitoring and optimizing fleets in real time. Through customizable vehicle satellite controls and an intuitive interface, it is possible to:

• Monitor driving style: identify incorrect driving behaviors and reduce car crashes risks for higher driving safety.
• Analyze data: acquire complete and easily accessible reports to optimize routes, reduce fuel consumption, and boost vehicle performance.
• Locate stolen vehicles: react promptly in case of car theft thanks to the accurate and reliable GPS system.
• Monitor fuel consumption, diagnostics, and mileage: keep track of fuel consumption, optimize maintenance, and reduce fleet management costs.
• Retrieve information on trips and routes: view completed routes, analyze driving intervals, and optimize routes for greater efficiency.

The WAT Platform offers a extensive suite of applications tailored for both internal and external use:

• Internal applications: software for ground-based satellite control centers and orbiting satellites.
• External applications: the user-friendly web portal empowers you to track vehicles in real time, generate custom reports, visualize maps, plan most advantageous routes, and effectively manage targeted locations.

First and foremost we focused on delivering the requested features, keeping the underlying technology unchanged. This approach allowed us to promptly respond to customer needs by basically implementing new features as requested.

Emerging issues

From the preliminary requests, a whole bunch of new features have been implemented so far. However, with the increasing complexity of the system and the data volume, issues related to the stability and speed of the software have emerged.

Technological solutions to improve performance

To address these issues, we have implemented a series of targeted technological updates to improve system performance.

• Introduction of queuing systems: these systems have increased the execution of requests, ensuring greater response speed while reducing response time.
• Implementation of ETL tools: the adoption of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools such as Talend has facilitated data management on databases, improving the efficiency and accuracy of data warehousing processes.
